Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media analyst for more than twenty years. She's also an accomplished public speaking. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, commentaries and analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has been awarded prizes for her work, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit site for education that investigates female representations in popular stories of culture - was created and is directed by Sarkeesian. Committed to destroying the stereotypes related to women in popular culture, she also works to address issues relating to gender-specific harassment of women as well as other classes of people on the internet. Sarkeesian has a degree in social thought and politics from York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public speaking. Sarkeesian has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Fest and United Nations Broadband Working Group. At a young age, Sarkeesian was fascinated by the issue of gender identity and feminist thought. When she was still in school, in 2009 she started her Feminist Frequency Website. She was a young woman determined to make an online series that would examine gender roles in games. But, she was the victim of online harassment. It was not enough to halt her. It actually increased her importance as a feminist and media critique. To honor the numerous achievements she's made for feminism, she is recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded several awards and founded Feminist Frequency as an educational nonprofit that studies how women are represented in the popular culture stories.
